EXHIBITION: APRIL, 2022

2021 was life changing ….

A year of uncertainty and reflection and also ripe with new subject matter, motivations, and perspectives, a year that necessitated change. In short, it was a time of personal exploration as well as one of resilience, renewal, and artistic growth and evolution. The world was engrossed in navigating constraints and leveraging technology to main connection to each other and the outside world - EMERGE explores the work of artists in the waning days of the pandemic as they channeled the moment and moved beyond to reflect on the future.

ANTONIEM, Grand Prize

Sculptor Ton Voortman describes his work as the result of a continuous search for the invisible.
During the lockdown of 2020, Voortman worked exclusively from his French studio where he relied on the materials he had within each such as wood, brass, and clay. There, he developed an entirely new abstract style that juxtaposes distinct materials - ripe with organic forms and textures.

“The shapes are simpler, the contrasts between the different elements are greater and there is more cohesion. read more

HANNAH THOMAS, Grand Prize

Painter Hannah Thomas’ work is deeply personal yet speaks of universal existential themes such as the interplay of multiple elements we each experience. Currently, Thomas’ area of focus is the confusion created by shifting boundaries and evolving relationships along with the attendant betrayals our physical selves impose upon our bodies. Thomas parallels these with the beauty and corruption of our accrued experience.

“My work is instinctive and focused on a stream of consciousness approach to painting. Ideas of Absurdism and chaos…I am passionate about attempting to express these ideas within abstract painting, which whilst I do use motifs and evocative shapes, and my visual language reflects my influences – Francis Bacon, Art Nouveau, David Lynch and the natural world - I want also to conjure an emotional topography that is specifically mine.” read more

EMILY ROYNESDAL, Member Prize

Emily Roynesdal is an American painter currently based in Colorado. Her passion for painting has become one of the most rewarding perks of following her love of art and curiosity about human behavior. The majority of her work has concentrated on the study of personal and public spaces over the course of time, where she attempts to capture human behavior and emotion.

“I immersed myself in an intense multi-disciplinary fine arts program that focused on technique, but eventually went on to include conceptual theory, and this set the stage for what continues to drive my art practice.”
